Thirteen years of record floods on midwest rivers and we want to deny climate change. We have a river gauge since 1910 which has measured floods, and 7 out of the 10 highest floods have happened in the last 13 years. Now we have an administration which says there is no science for climate change, and that we will give a blank check to oil and coal. Thank goodness that natural gas has become so affordable, but in the meantime I will be cleaning up after one more flood, and spending thousands of dollars to repair and replace the damage. The Cafe standards on motor vehicles were removed so the demand for more oil will remain high, and the average American will spend thousands more to feed the oil companies as they take their wealth from America off shore to shelter that money from taxes which will have to clean up the messes that their products have and continue to impose on America. Sadly, the Trump voters do not care because a white man is now denying that the civil war was ever necessary, and elevating Andrew Jackson as a role model. We can always count on hate and racism hurting our self interest long term.

Adapt... overcome... or move. It's a shame really... humans used to be very good at that stuff. I wonder what the govt would be begged to do if an ice age began... or a meteor hit... or Yellowstone erupted and blotted out the sun for a decade. Why people have such faith in govt is beyond my comprehension.

As a matter of fact... yes. It's reckless to buy property unless you're willing to rebuild once every decade or two. The same as healthcare... why should the responsible subsidize the irresponsible?

We have a river gauge which gives a constant scientific measure of river levels for over a hundred years. Prior to 2005, there were 10 major floods which were about 20 years apart going all the way back to 1910. Today 7 of the top ten floods have happened in less than a decade. Two were record floods. Here is a photo of what I am now dealing with once again. We will lose about 2-3K in this flood to replace gravel and repair our roads. There is a huge cost to climate change. It is time to quit denying science, and working for real solutions which can cut our carbon use.

http://m.livescience.com/4180-sahara-desert-lush-populated.html

22,000 to 10,500 years ago: The Sahara was devoid of any human occupation
outside the Nile Valley and extended 250 miles further south than it does
today.

10,500 to 9,000 years ago: Monsoon rains begin sweeping into the Sahara,
transforming the region into a habitable area swiftly settled by Nile
Valley dwellers.

9,000 to 7,300 years ago: Continued rains, vegetation growth, and animal
migrations lead to well established human settlements, including the
introduction of domesticated livestock such as sheep and goats.

7,300 to 5,500 years ago: Retreating monsoonal rains initiate desiccation
in the Egyptian Sahara, prompting humans to move to remaining habitable
niches in Sudanese Sahara. The end of the rains and return of desert
conditions throughout the Sahara after 5,500 coincides with population
return to the Nile Valley and the beginning of pharaonic society.

The absurdity of that proposition is that Florida and the old Confederacy uses most of the disaster dollars over the last 25 years, and the same people who almost voted 80% for President Trump are the first ones to demand to be given money after a disaster....over and over again. I heard the figure on the Florida insurance debates that 75% of all per capita dollar homeowner claims have come out of the state of Florida since 1900. Again, President Trump fires up the SEC with his Civil War mumbo Jumbo, folks are building new houses on Navarre beach which every one of us will pay for when they are inevitably flooded and destroyed in a Cat 3, and these folks want to blame Mexicans and Blacks for the subsidy by government. It is fricking insane that the teat suckers scream the loudest to create the illusion that blacks and mexicans are getting government subsidy, while they get subsidized insurance costing billions. I feel like rational and factual discussions have been replaced by blabberings from idiots.

Stop it. Only a moron thinks there has never been climate change in the past. We are talking about climate change today which science has clearly and without scientific dissent said is being caused by man made carbon. Talking about a Mastodon walking along the road in front of my house with a two hundred foot ice sheet is a deflection of the problem at hand. We need significant carbon reductions to slow climate change. The auto Cafe standards did remarkable things in spurring innovation and improvements on reducing pollution emissions and improving fuel consumption, yet the same arguments used by big oil to keep their buggy whips selling at the expense of real advancements in reducing carbon emissions only requires denial of science. Denial of science to prop up big oil and coal is not an honorable path when billions are being wasted to give subsidy to those who do not need the same.

Except that the models have predicted disaster for decades... many already proven false.

But let's just play along today. Which would you decide the better... mandate and edict to lower the standard of our living via taxes and regulated restrictions... or humans adapt to their environment just like they have through the ages... naturally. Fossil fuels... particularly oil... is a finite resource. We'll adapt to that shrinking resource naturally too. Except for the leftists... who would just roll over and die apparently. I think this superior delusion that allows you to think that you're entitled to make decisions for others is evil. What would be nice is if y'all would set an example for just yourselves. I promise you... if it turned into a recognized "good idea"... everyone would follow. That's natural too... it's a proven pattern in our evolution.

mandate and edict to lower the standard of our living via taxes and regulated restrictions.

That is entirely a false premise. The fact is that natural gas, nuclear, and renewable energy is cost effective today, and turning American fleets into electric fleets will save money. How do you put a price tag on cancer and other environmental impacts caused by pollution.

Also, electric generation is American made versus importing oil which we spend trillions in wasted defense dollars to defend. We can have a higher standard of living when we STOP the oil and coal subsidy.

I can agree to end all subsidy. But the rest of your opinion seems detached or ignorant as to the greenies.

Perhaps you should become more familiar with whom you're backing. It's not a moderate goal they seek.

I can agree to end all subsidy.

I completely disagree. Subsidy can and has grown our economy and helped this nation to become more productive. More wind and solar subsidy while reducing coal and oil subsidy makes solid economic sense. We can stop polluting and still grow this economy. We can create many more jobs in renewable energy than continuing to give obscene depreciation schedules, subsidy, and protection to the oil industry. The very idea of removing subsidy after 100 years of the same for oil and gas is absurd. We need to spend money to make a smooth transition to renewable energy.

I drive up 17th to work everyday, a house about 1800 sq ft is having a new roof put on, just shingles, well it was started a little over a week ago by white guys and when I drive home I come the same way, these guys are no where to be seen at 5pm Mexican's would have had the damn thing done max 2 days.

I have paid damn good money for flood insurance the past 27 years and it's going up again this year, collected once in 2014 and that was only a little over 2 grand after the deductible.

After Ivan, the only people who were effectively cleaning up and fixing things were Hispanics who have an untouchable work ethic. When my wife and I go to Lowes with our work clothes on, it is hilarious. People look with disdain that we are some low life manual workers. In Illinois, we wear the same clothes and not once have we caught that attitude. It is a cultural evolution which started with Slavery and evolved through Jim Crow. Where in Illinois German, Polish, and other immigrants for the last 125 years pulled their shirt sleeves up and did manual work. I come from an agricultural area where a farmer will be working the fields into their 90s. There simply is something strange going on when people do manual work. The new flip this house tv series has made manual work sexy, but among older folks......it still is a mark of disdain.

The water keeps getting higher. I have checked the river gauges, and we will be flooded through next weekend if we do not have a storm. If we have a storm, we will have serious damage to our causeways. This could get very bad before it is over. When I crossed the Tennessee and the Ohio, they both looked full. In about two weeks we can expect some flooding on the Mississippi.

Hell come to think about it I have never looked at the name of their truck, but they usually pull it up into the yard that is close to house on one side and a tree on the other. I'll try and remember to look in the next couple days, I'm sure they'll still be there.

What a mess. The forecast said it was supposed to drop yesterday. It rose by about a foot. I will spend the next three weeks cleaning up, and the worst part is that May requires two grass cuttings a week in some parts of the islands, and I have not been able to cut the grass for almost 10 days. I have a full maple tree about to traverse one of the causeways. It will take me a couple days to clear these items from the causeways, but I cannot even get to them in the high water. This is crazy.

Not all of them.

Compared to folks who are white and live in the Panhandle.........Just about every single one of them. I am not used to lazy white people in farm country. Farmers learn to work as children. They learn to get their hands dirty. They learn to get dirty, and find pride in hard work. They drive beat up pick up trucks to town and are worth 10 million( not because of some fricking image which seems to be pervasive in the panhandle, but because they need to move bales of hay). In the panhandle I have not seen so many poor people who are unwilling to do manual work, and have what I would call race arrogance........like getting my hands dirty is not for a proper white person. It was never like this in Birmingham. It was a blue collar working man's city where people were proud to work. I pick up the arrogance in fast food restaurants and clerks in stores.....like they are too good to be doing the job they are doing. It is pervasive. A Hispanic roof crew gets it done. I did my own roofs for most of my life, as did most folks who were taught a work ethic. When you combine low IQ, Lazy, and arrogance it is a certain formula for poverty. Combine that with an exploiting upper middle class professionals who try to keep any outside competition out of the area as they exploit those in poverty and perpetuate this strange caste system which depended on the black man knowing his place.

The hatred toward Mexicans is obvious. They work. They have strong Catholic family traditions. They are proud. That does not fit into the panhandle where it is regular business to find dead people on dirt roads and your tenant is a heroin or meth head. I look at those people looking down at my wife and I in our work clothes and just shake my head.....when they get home do they have someone who can help wiping their asses, or is it the five cars parked in the front yard of the double wide with junk all over the yard, which does not allow them to pick up their own damn yard. I lived in Mexico. I lived in the Panhandle. Mexicans have a work ethic.
