2seaoat is proud to display their misinformation about the problems in Greece.  HIGHER TAXES THEY SAY!

I guess Progressives are not aware of the already Draconian taxes in Greece.  The problem is not high enough taxes but, due to the taxes, TAX EVASION.

Greece's former tax-collection chief just told us why the country has such a massive tax-evasion problem

The size of the tax-evasion problem facing Greece is worth "roughly about 6% of GDP compared to the average of other countries," he said.

The issue has been exaggerated in media, he added, but "the kind of changes that are required are really underestimated."

An extra 6% of Greek GDP may not sound like a lot, but it would amount to more than €10 billion in taxes collected — a figure that makes Greece's immediate debt repayment needs look like a less pressing issue.

Theoharis says that tax dodging is more common among Greece's self-employed and small companies.

"Greece has a lot of self-employed, who are much better at tax evading than employees, which is common in every country," he said. "But we have 2 to 2 1/2 times more self-employed than other countries. So even if we were on par for tax evasion with other countries, we would have 2 to 2 1/2 times more just because of that facts."

He added: "Out of the 6% of GDP that explains about 3% of tax evasion, about half. Not just self-employed but small companies as well, they can tax evade more easily with lax accounting."

I've read about these astonishing statistics before. Self-employment is surprisingly prevalent among the professional middle classes in Greece, people who might well be employees in other countries.

Self-employed Greeks spend 82% of their (reported) monthly income on debt servicing, according to a 2012 University of Chicago paper. That's an absurdly high number, and suggests that most had little left to live on after the repayment.

For "lawyers, doctors, financial services, and accountants," the authors found that over 100% of their reported income supposedly goes on debt repayment — if the figures were correct, those well-paid, middle-class professionals would literally have nothing (less than nothing) to live on.

Not only do the Greeks think they should be able to retire and live in comfort at 57...they don't think they should pay for it either.  Talk about GREED.

The larger issue is reality—and Greece’s flight from it. Greece’s debt-to-GDP ratio is 177%, which sounds like an abstraction but means that this year Greece will produce barely half as much as it owes. This is what the Greek government and its fellow travelers call austerity.

As of 2008, on the eve of the meltdown, Greece had no fewer than 133 public-pension funds, each administered by its own little bureaucracy. (Under pressure from creditors, the number was supposed to come down to 13.) Greeks retire earlier and live longer than most of their eurozone peers, which means they spend close to 18% of GDP on public pensions, compared with about 7% in Ireland and 5% in the U.S. Pension fraud is pervasive, but nobody can put an exact figure on it because record-keeping is notoriously, and probably deliberately, spotty.

As it goes with pensions, so too with so much else. Creditors asked the Greeks to pare their military spending (currently among the highest in Europe as a percentage of GDP) by 10%, but the ruling Syriza party could only bring itself to make half the cuts. The Turks might invade any day.

Privatization of state-owned companies was supposed to bring in €50 billion. Five years into the crisis, successive governments have only sold off €2.5 billion of assets. Greece has more lawyers per capita than the United States. As of 2010, Greek labor costs were 25% higher than in Germany. A liter of milk in Greece costs 30% more than elsewhere in Europe, thanks to regulations that allow it to remain on the shelf for no more than a week. Pharmaceuticals are also more expensive, thanks to the cartelization of the economy.he

The Oligarchy in Greece is doing the same as has been done in Latin America until recently......corrupt government to line their pockets while the average person is exploited.  The wealthy have controlled a corrupt government to make sure they did not have to pay their fair share, and in the United States we have a party who represents the same.  This exact same problem happened in the 1890s in Greece when they went bankrupt the first time, but in the United States we were attacking the monopolies, trusts, and corporations which were corrupt and sucking the essence out of economies.

Greece is an example of Conservative principles collapsing from their own weight.  Conservative governments serving the corrupt Oligarchy......you know Mr. Markle's model of good government.

It's like seaoat is living in an alternate universe where up is down and left is right.
And where the Boston Marathon Massacre is a "common" crime.
And where the court actually established that George Zimmerman was guilty of manslaughter even though every other person in America including everyone in the legal community said otherwise.
It boggles the mind.  But it is entertaining.  lol
