UWF football program rising to occasion

http://www.pnj.com/story/sports/college/university-west-florida/2015/06/12/uwf-continues-build-toward-first-football-practice/71159036/

This is a really detailed article on how preparations are progressing for the introductory season of UWF Football one year from August. I am really excited about this, and while a baseball game won't bring me to the Maritime Park, a UWF home football game might.

I remember taking my teenage daughter to a number of home games when she was a student at Pine Forest High School. I think the adults had more fun at those games than the kids did. I always came away hoarse from yelling. It was great fun, and I think UWF football is going to resonate well in our community, like the HS games now do.

The Argos football team starts practicing in August of 2015....

I'm an alumnus of UWF. It's sad Bense can get giant bonuses and we can have football, yet we can't pay our faculty decent wages.

I agree.  She is a politician who in my opinion has taken care of herself and the students and their education a distant second priority.  She was largely responsible for the negative community feelings toward Maritime where she did her political hype dance about boat houses, and museums.....

I am also an alumnus of UWF, and cannot wait to follow the Argo football team. It won't divert my interest from the Division I powerhouses at all--I will still be interested in them.

I think it will be good for this area and it will also help revitalize the PNJ sportswriters, as they will have something they can closely follow.

Anyway, I am starting to get psyched about football. Can't wait for it to begin again!

We have a fickle fan base. Most other universities have a local alumni base that contributes $$$. Not so much for the Argos due to the p-poor economy of the area. Most grads are from elsewhere and leave or most leave due to the suck job market I know has existed and continues t exist since I got here in 1986.

Hey, and perhaps they will find a way to televise a game or two, and show it on BLAB, or something.

I certainly do not take Karl's view. This is not a major football program---yet anyway---and it will be followed by locals. The same folks who flock to HS football games will attend UWF football games. We'll just have to see how it turns out.

One of the things my kid likes about UWF is that they do not have a football team and all the hoopla that goes with it.

My guess is a football team will change the character of the school ... and not necessarily for the better.

Oh well, they say the only constant in the universe is "change."
