3. American Exceptionalism Is Absolute Nonsense in 2015
No matter how severe the U.S.’ decline becomes, neocons and the Tea Party continue to espouse their belief in “American exceptionalism.” But in many respects, the U.S. of 2015 is far from exceptional. The U.S. is not exceptional when it comes to civil liberties (no country in the world incarcerates, per capita, more of its people than the U.S.) or healthcare (WHO ranks the U.S. #37 in terms of healthcare). Nor is the U.S. a leader in terms of life expectancy: according to the WHO, overall life expectancy in the U.S. in 2013 was 79 compared to 83 in Switzerland and Japan, 82 in Spain, France, Italy, Sweden and Canada and 81 in the Netherlands, Germany, Norway, Austria and Finland.

It must all be Obama's fault .... LOL

It is a fraud we tell ourselves, unfortunately. There are so many other countries that are much better than we are.

No, War Hero, running away is your game not hers.  She chooses to stay and improve our second-rate country.  And so do I.

Shagging arse is your game, not ours.

Other than acting like a spoiled little boy, is there any part of my opening statement  you disagree with?  We're not the richest, we're not the most educated, we're not the healthiest, etc.

So what makes us exceptional?  Ex-military chumps like you?

Actually, I would love to "shag" but I have ties here that keep me from leaving.

America is exceptional. It is our founding fathers and the beauty of our constitution which makes it so..........I make no apologies for this great country and being first or living a year longer is no measure of this great country. It is great because we are not perfect, we are not without flaws, but the American people overall believe in fundamental fairness. The problem is that evil exists in this country. It has slowly bought our congress. It is getting more control of our media sending its propaganda to the weak of mind.....however, they will fail and America will prevail. We need to end the war on drugs.....we need to reduce our military and government by twenty five percent over the next decade. We need to attack those who use racism as a political tool, and we need to have fun......living in fear and having hissy fits while killing hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians is seriously not fun and is quite insane......we can work on our flaws, but this country is remarkable and exceptional and every day I give thanks that I was born in America.

Liberals even want to apologize for America's success. That's goofy

Countries who are exceptional are those that provide healthcare to their citizens and provide for their poor. Millions are still w/o healthcare. That is not exceptional.

We've printed all the funny money we can. How do you propose to pay for it all without crushing the
Middle class who is footing the Obamacare bill as it is. If it's so important, start writing checks

Vikingwoman

So you're ok w/ the middle class footing the bill and not the rich? That is why what you post is so stupid all the time. You have no common sense at ALL!

We do have the highest percentage of prisoners.  We are 37th in healthcare.  Our life expectancy is less than many other modern countries.  I guess that does indeed make us exceptional!

Reality.

In a land, so rife with freedom there is not going to be uniformity of outcomes.  The freedoms America provides include the freedom to fail.  Americas’ exceptionalism is all about the freedoms that are bestowed upon its citizens (and to a large degree to its immigrants).  We have the opportunities that many other nations do not have.  Some of us take advantage of these opportunities, some do not.  If not all of us take advantage of the (mostly) free education, that does not make America less exceptional.  If not all of us take advantage of the availability of nutritious food, and that leads to obesity and complicated health problems, that does not make America less exceptional.  It does not make America less exceptional that some do not adhere to the established laws of the land, and find themselves in prison – America still has one of the best legal systems.  America is exceptional because of the opportunity of choice.  It is the (poor) choices that many have made that leads to less than desirable outcomes.

In YOUR opinion only.

You have been forced to admit that you have no clue what the criteria used in that healthcare rating. It is NOT that you do not know, you do not want to admit you know and how they render the decades old rating wrong. Nor why they quit this rating because of the INACCURACY.

Show us the truth.  Is the following statement true or false, if false prove it:  "Nor is the U.S. a leader in terms of life expectancy: according to the WHO, overall life expectancy in the U.S. in 2013 was 79 compared to 83 in Switzerland and Japan, 82 in Spain, France, Italy, Sweden and Canada and 81 in the Netherlands, Germany, Norway, Austria and Finland."

Does any other industrialized nation incarcerate a higher percentage of its citizens than the U.S.?  Let's hear your version, and back it up because no one believes you Semi Sane Markle.

Tell us why we shouldn't believe that the U.S.A. should be rated 37th for Healthcare.
